Vale Daniel Dart

It is with great sadness that we inform our members and supporters of the passing of Daniel Dart.

Daniel was a much-loved and respected member at our club who loved his football and always made an effort to get to our games.

Daniel's first season with Skye was 2013. He played a big role during that second half of that season, especially in the reserves finals campaign which resulted in a premiership. He made many great friends that year and in the years since.

Daniel's passing was completely unexpected and has come as a shock to all of us. His presence at the club was always felt and we are all going to miss him greatly.

Our thoughts are with Sue and Daniel's family.

A great man and a great friend.

Vale Daniel Dart.

Round 10 Recap

The stage was set for a huge day at Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve. All four football sides were scheduled to play and were fired up for the occasion. It was a frosty morning but the sun was just over hill.

As always, it was up to the thirds to kick the dew off the ground when they faced Black Rock. It was another dominant performance in which our guys were in control from the beginning. 138 points was the final margin. Chris Deluca was best-on-ground with four goals, while Brad Dyer booted seven.

A tough challenge awaited the under 19s at 10:30am. When we last met Oakleigh Districts in round 1, the result was a 132-point defeat. The scoreline was a lot closer this time around. Our young fellas showed a lot of determination but were beaten by a good side to the tune of 34 points. Caleb Ellis was best-on-ground while young Tyson Ross kicked three goals.

The reserves game against Oakleigh Districts in round 1 was a close encounter. Our guys never really had complete control and the result showed. A 12-point margin was all that separated us in the end. This time around was going to be different. Our reserves have had more time to gel and play fast, smart football. While it was a good match to watch, our guys seemed to control the game and ran away to a 60-point victory. Reigning reserves best and fairest, Sotirios Solomonidis, was best on ground while Mick Kalviskis kicked five.

Oakleigh Districts seniors have come a long way since missing finals last year. They have built their side up and will no doubt play finals this year. But they had to get over the top of our boys on Saturday first. The difference in round 1 was two goals after Oakleigh Districts started strong. It was almost a case of de ja vu when Oakleigh jumped out of the gates and held us goalless in the first quarter. It was a much tighter contest from then on. Our boys were able to take the lead going into the last change and finished strong to win by 23 points. Ben Evans was at his sensational best, kicking seven and having plenty of the ball around the ground.

Over at the netball courts, the A-side competed well but went down to Heatherton, 32-26. St Kilda City got the best of our B-side at , 57-20.

The feeling at the Hangar on Saturday was electric. The crowd were sensational, the matches were hard-fought. It was the perfect display of what local footy is all about. Local footy is not exclusive to any group. It is for all to enjoy. It is a place for the community to meet new people, make friends, become a part of something great and make a difference. We are very proud of what we do and we are proud of our club. It's time for everyone to jump on the bus because the sky is the limit and it is going to be a great ride!

Round 9 Recap

Round 9 proved to be a very successful week for the Bombers. It was wins (and a draw) all round!

With all four football sides scheduled to play at home, we were looking forward to a big day of football.

The news then broke on Thursday night that Dandenong would not have a team to take on our thirds and therefore a forfeit was registered and those not picked in the seniors or reserves had a week off. But not before a refreshing training session on Saturday morning.

It was then up to the under 19s to start the day of competition when they faced Highett. Both sides had come off some disappointing losses so this game was a matter of who wanted it more. The young Bombers were impressive and controlled the game from the beginning. Coach Adam Lagerewskij stated that he couldn't have asked much more from his young charges who ran away 70-point winners. Brendan Weighell was best-on-ground.

There was a bit of a scare sent through the reserves camp when Highett came out firing and really challenged our undefeated side. To the credit of the reserves, they were able to steady the ship and, led by coach Chris Smith, went on to win by 23-points.

It was then on to the "Match of the Round". The SFNL Caravan of Coverage was onsite to broadcast the seniors clash against Highett. The game did not disappoint. It was a tough batlle from beginning to end. Highett got off to a strong start to lead by 10 at the first break before our guys were able to get on top. Although the Bombers lead at every other change, it was only ever by the narrowest of margins. The final quarter had everyone biting their nails. When the final siren sounded, it was Skye by 4 points. Ben Evans was outstanding with three goals and plenty of contested grabs around the ground.

At the netball courts the A-team defeated Hampton 40-26, while the B-team drew with Dingley 30-30.

It was a great effort from all sides over the weekend and we look forward to backing it up this week. We have all four football sides at home again and the netball girls will be over at the SDNA courts as usual.

Caravan of Coverage - SFNL Radio

The SFNL selected our match against Highett as the Match of the Round over the weekend.

Rob Sharpe and the team paid us a visit to broadcast the game and to interview club president, Christian McGuire, as part of their half-time show. And didn't they pick a stomper?

The round 9 clash was the 100th senior match for senior coach, Ben Walker, as well as being Andrew Hook's 50th senior game. It was a special occasion to say the least.

The listeners were treated to a tug-of-war battle that ended with a 4-point win to our Bombers!

CLICK HERE to listen to the podcast of the match.

Thank you to Rob Sharpe and the team from SFNL Media for coming down and providing a sensational broadcast to their listeners.

Bogan Bingo

The Bogan Bingo team arrived at the Hangar last Saturday night to a sea of flannelette shirts, mullets and moccasins.

Everyone who attended was dressed in their bogan best and it only added to the atmosphere. The hosts were fantastic and got everyone participating in the games.

The overall mood was fantastic and everyone appeared to really enjoy themselves. Chris Smith, Marc Frizell and Justin Baldock were electric in the air guitar competition, while Troy "Dockers" Docherty and his lovely wife, Liza, took out King and Queen Bogan respectively.

It was a great night had by all and an event that was definitely worth having. Thank you to those who attended.

Round 8 Recap

Round 8 featured some excellent performancers from our teams. It puts us in a great position going into the Queen's Birthday break.

The thirds kicked off the day at Dandenong, facing the Redlegs for the first time since 2013 and for the very first time at Greaves Reserve. Our boys were looking to bounce back from a flat finish the previous week and got off to a flying start. The team featured a former goal-kicking superstar in Luke McGuiness, who was playing his first game since retiring from senior football at the end of last season. Despite a lazy finish, the Bombers were able to register a 174-point win. Luke McGuiness was best-on-ground, kicking 13 goals. The thirds remain undefeated and go into the break with a three-game lead on top of the table.

The reserves opened preceedings at Springvale Reserve. The reserves don't need a lot written about them as they continue to get the job week-after-week. The foot was on the gas the whole afternoon with the final result an 84-point win to the Bombers. Young Chris McCann was best-on-ground with three goals, while Matt Poore and Mick Kalviskis kicked four a-piece. The reserves go into the break undefeated and two games clear on top of the ladder.

The seniors then faced the daunting task of facing Springvale Districts at Springvale. It is never an easy task but a five-goal to one first quarter set our boys up for the rest of the game. There were some excellent individual efforts, but the team work was what really shone through in the end. A 61-point win was the final reward. Ben Evans kicked three, but it was Shaun Thomas who dominated from the back line. The seniors have enjoyed a resurgence and have ended up in third spot on the ladder going into the break.

The under 19s were treated to a rare sleep-in when they were scheduled to face Hallam at 3:30pm. Unfortunately, the extra snooze did nothing to help the result. There were some great efforts, but in the end; Hallam were too good. Hallam got off to a fast start and went on to win by 21 points. Tyson Ross again showed signs of his potential, taking best-on-ground honours. The 19s have had a slow start and sit 11th on the ladder. We are look to the boys to work hard at training and turn their season around after the break.

Over at the netball complex, the A-side defeated Chelsea Heights by 8 points. Unfortunately, the B-side were defeated by Highett, 21-13. It has been an excellent start to the season for our girls and we hope that they can continue their good work.

We hope that everyone enjoys the long weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone down at the Hangar on June 13th when all four football sides return home!
