We are getting closer and closer to that milestone of six wins from six teams. This weekend was a sensational round for the club.
The thirds were informed on Friday afternoon that Black Rock would unfortunately not be able to field a side to take the park. The thirds players names enjoyed a run at Oliver's Hill.
It was then left to the under 19s to commence preceedings at home in excellent conditions against Hallam. To the credit of the under 19s boys, it was a close game the whole way through. A far cry from the 50-point deficit that lay in front of our boys at half time the last time we met Hallam. The boys fought all morning. A goal to Brandon Black put the boys three goals in front with four minutes to play. A couple of lapses in concentration allowed Hallam to kick the three goals needed to come back. The final result was a draw. Luke Broomhall was huge up forward with five goals, while Reece Smart to best-on-ground honours.
The reserves and seniors travelled to Ross Street Reserve to face Heatherton. The reserves were in control from the very beginning and showed no signs of letting up. Our guys again led at every change to come away with a 114-point win. Mick Kalviskis kicked eight and young Ryan McConville was best-on-ground.
The seniors were coming off a huge confidence-boosting win against Oakleigh Districts last week and were looking to continue with that momentum against Heatherton. The problem was, Heatherton were also coming off a big win against Caulfield and started very strong. It was a close encounter up until half time when our guys were able to kick away. An eight-goal-to-none third quarter set us up for a big 77-point win away from home. It was a solid performance going into the mid-season break. Acting captain, Aaron Harper, kicked four. Jarryd Karadeas and Jim Martinson kicked three a-piece. But it was young Joel McConville who took best a-field honours for the seniors this week.
At the SDNA courts, both netball teams recorded wins. The A-side defeated Bentleigh, 49-12, while the B-side defeated Chelsea Heights, 26-23. Well done to both teams!
The thirds played out their round 12 match last weekend and defeated Sandown by 40 points. It was a sensational challenge in slippery conditions for our guys, but they brought it together to get the job done. Shane Werner kicked two goals while Scott Thorne was named best-on-ground.
