The Southern Football League was formed in 1993 when the Eastern Suburbs Churches Football Association and the South East Suburban Football League joined forces. The new League was made up of five divisions with 45 clubs, and covered the vast area of South-East Melbourne, stretching from Chelsea Heights to Lower Plenty to Fairfield.
